Design Concept: to transport audiences back into their childhood selves, full of awe, wonder, curiosity, and excitement. The result is a maximalist, eclectic, abstracted, surrealist pirate ship blended with a wooden playground staged in an intimate thrust arrangement.
The set is a true playground - full of opportunities for actors to run around, up and down, crawl, and appear anywhere. Actors swing from ropes, emerge from the trap under the grated floor, and appear to fly on teeter-totters.
At intermission, the set transforms into the ship-wrecked jungle with the addition of tropical foliage popping out of crates, growing around corners, and popping through the backdrop. Ship ropes become hanging jungle vines. Hidden recesses in the floor alight with LEDs to become glowing star-stuff waters.
